Sometimes writing reviews can be tedious. I usually reserve my reviews for those stories that capture my heart and my imagination and those that I can't unsee and long to forget. The IR Romance genre is a personal favorite. In literary world, this genre is increasingly popular and growing. For those of us who are women of color who are in an IR or have been considering one, stories that cast someone who looks like us as the love interest are very appealing. While IR are more evident in life and art, not all growth in this genre has been positive or uplifting. Oftentimes, the BW lead is pigeonholed by stereotypes so unacceptable as to be rendered unrecognizable and her WM counterpart comes off as her unlikely savior. I can't tell you how infuriating it is to read a story about an uneducated, loudmouth and loose-moraled BW who finds herself suddenly set upon by a zillionaire alpha WM who is fascinated with her chocolate skin, bubble bottom and thick thighs. Stories like this make me mad. I am so much more than my body parts and I want my heroines to reflect that.Ms. Eden has created a story with characters who look like me. She is educated, speaks several languages, has professional parents, does chores on Saturdays, actively volunteers her time and has a wicked sense of humor. I loved Kimberly! And I loved Adam! The love they found was breathtaking. You will smile, shed a couple of tears, belly laugh a few times and sigh contentedly at the end. All the things you want in a good story.I may be wrong, I'm guessing that Ms. Eden is caucasian based on her previous titles. If I'm correct, then you have my thanks. Writing from the point of view of a person from another race is not an easy task. I've seen lesser talents trying to capitalize in this genre believing that if they simply add a physical description of a BW it would be enough. We WOC know it's not that easy. Kimberly is thoughtfully crafted and believable. Of course I could be wrong about Ms. Eden's race. No matter. The story was wonderful. If this is her first venture into the IR genre under this 'nomination de plume,' it was an amazing debut. I look forward to reading more from her.
